As my daughter Abigail was battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia we were helped not only by friends and family but local businesses and charities.  I've dedicated a lot of my blog space to the businesses that have helped us but would be remissed to not shed a spotlight on some of the wonderful charitable organizations that were there for our family as well.  Abby received visits and care packages from so many that I probably can't even remember them all if I 'm being honest.  Of course that time in our life was a complete blur.  One that stood out was ComfyCozy's for Chemo.  Started locally in the Phoenix area by Lorraine Tallman, who lost her daughter Amanda to cancer a couple of years before Abby was diagnosed, this mission has spread around the nation.

The idea began because then 11 year old Amanda found herself embarrased by always having to disrobe in front of strangers so the nurses could reach her ports to administer her medicine. So along with her mother they designed cool Tye Dye tee shirts with zipper or button access that allowed the nurses to administer medicines without the patient having to take off their shirts.  This offered these children a little bit of dignity.  When Amanda was passing she told her mother, "make sure EVERY child that needs one of these gets one" so Lorraine has made it her mission to see Amanda's dream become a reality. But Comfy Cozy is much more than just cool shirts for the patients.  They provide endless family support, gas cards so parents can visit their children, spa days at the children's hospitals where they paint nails, etc. amongst other things.  When Abby was going through her treatment her little sister bought her a Flippeez hat.  We requested that in lieu of flowers people donate money so we could buy one of these hats for the kids on the cancer floor at Phoenix Children's Hospital.  Lorraine and Comfy Cozy's faciliated this for us.  I was hoping to have enough to cover all the kids that were on the floor the day we delivered.  Much to my surprise we had nearly 200 hats.  We had enough to deliver to every kid on the cancer floor, their siblings and return to the oncology clinic later and do the same.  Thank you Lorraine for all you do for these little warriors.
