March Madness Contest

Hello all!  March is upon us and for those who live in snow regions know that spring is around the corner.  Those of us in the Northeast wish that it would come very quickly this year!

But for much of the country, it’s March Madness time and even those who don’t watch or follow NCAA basketball often take part in office pools.

So let’s have one of our own...with a twist.

This contest will let ActiveRain bloggers battle it out with the pen...ahem, head-to-head competition during the month of March.  It will be a battle for comments.

Here’s how the contest will work.

  1. Bloggers will have until March 6 to submit their article from the month of February which they received the most number of comments.

  2. A bracket system will be developed similar to that of the NCAA Tournament based on geographic location and most number of comments.  A blogger’s total number of points may be considered when developing the bracket seed position.

  3. In each round two bloggers will go head-to-head in a battle for the most comments during the round.

  4. At the end of the round, bloggers submit their blog that received the most number of comments during the round.

  5. The blogger that received more comments than his/her competitor will move on to the next round.

  6. The blogger who receives the most comments in the final round will be the March Blogging Madness Champion.

Here’s how the scoring works:

  1. Each blogger who submits an article and receives a seeded position will be awarded 100 points.

  2. Each blogger who moves to subsequent rounds on will receive 200 points for advancing to round 2, 300 points for round 3, 400 points for round 4, etc.

  3. The winner will receive 2000 points for being the Contest Champion.

Here’s the fine print:

  1. You must use the entry form located below in order to submit an article.  Do not post your entry in the comments section of this blog.

  2. Entries must be submitted by March 6, 2015 at 12:00pm Pacific Time.  The bracket will be posted by 11:59pm Pacific Time on March 7.

  3. Only one comment from each blogger will be counted, including the author’s comments.  Back and forth conversation between two bloggers will count as one comment for each.  Please keep that in mind when submitting your entry article.

  4. All rounds begin at 12:01am Pacific Time on the start date.  Your entry for the round must be submitted to the moderator by 11:59pm Pacific Time on the end date.  Not submitting by the specified time results in a forfeit.

  5. For a 64-blogger bracket, the rounds will be:

      1. Start date - End date

      2. March 8 - March 10

      3. March 12 - March 14

      4. March 16 - March 18

      5. March 20 - March 22

      6. March 24 - March 26

      7. March 28 - March 30

      8. Winner announced on March 31st

  6. Winners of each round will be announced at 5:00pm Pacific time the day after the round closes.  (March 11, March 15, March 19, March 23, March 27).  Ties will be decided by which article received the most number of “Likes”.

  7. There are no rules regarding the content of the article, only that the submitted article must be posted to the Public.  You do not have to mention in the article that it is an entry for the contest.

The goal is to create a 64-blogger bracket that resembles the NCAA bracket.  However, if we have less than 64 entries, a 32-blogger bracket will be created.  For a 32-blogger bracket, round 5 will be the final round with the winner announced on March 27.

I hear the question bellowing from the hilltops now:

WHAT ABOUT FEATURED ARTICLES??  Obviously articles that get featured will receive more comments.  Thus the goal would be to create articles with extremely valuable content which results in being featured articles.  As the rounds progress, the chances of being featured increases.

I hope that this contest will be a blast for everyone.  I know that I am looking forward to the head-to-head battles between the millionaires, but especially between millionaires and thousandaires.

Good luck and happy blogging folks!
