What Did You Wish You Could Have Done Earlier in Your Career?
This question was asked, in one of the Linked In real estate group I belong to. Brought back memories of my earlier real estate days.
What more perfect day to share this than on a Snow Day in Frisco (doesn't happen very often)!
My answer:
For me (I think it's silly answer) but it's real for me.
I wished I believe in myself (and more importantly) that I can become successful. When I become full-time, I met with a church friend who is a realtor who just transitioned into another career. She was kind enough to give me a folder of how she started (I believe it was a KW 33-touches folder). She told me her goal was to close 5-transactions per month!
I sat in awe across her because at that point, I was only doing 5 transactions a year (part-time).
I never dream of such "success".
3 years later, I hired a coach after a prayer session for guidance. Kathy Eppley. She helped me with my self-limiting beliefs. One profound session, she shared with me Maryanne Williamson's Return to Love quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
I used to think keeping myself "tiny" and "small" was humility. (Big time, loud top producer personality didn't sit well with my personality). I didn't realize that there too, was a place for me in this world of real estate. Someone who's not loud, who doesn't like spotlights, who just want to remain the "mover" of the transaction.
Today, my husband and I close over 50+ transactions per year. We dont necessarily measure success in #transactions or even CGI, we measure it by how many people we touch along the way.
Had I believed in myself right from the beginning that I could, who knows if I may be a few years ahead of where I am now. But it's still good. It is all in His timing.
