Katy ISD Spring Break | Katy Prairie Kite Flight

Katy ISD Spring Break starts this next Monday March 9, 2015 and lasts through Friday March 13, 2015. Sometimes parents are so caught up with daily life they forget about school holidays and breaks. Many folks do not have school age children and do not realize children will be home during the break. All drivers need to slow down in the various neighborhoods during the day as children will be present and playing.

Katy Prairie Conservancy (KPC) is hosting “Kite Flight” family event on Saturday March 14, 2015 at Indiangrass Preserve. The event starts at 11 AM and lasts until 1 PM. One station will allow participants to construct their own Kite and then fly the kite. The Katy prairie is an excellent place to fly a kite and especially during spring time.

Kie Flight requires advance registration and costs $3 per person which barely covers cost of materials (probably not). KPC’s Staff encourage families to bring a picnic lunch and  explore the preserve.

You can contact Jaime Gonzales at 713-523-6935 for more Kite flight information.

Indiangrass Preserve is located at: Indiangrass Preserve 31950 Hebert Rd Waller, TX, 77484.

Bob

When I was young, I was pretty good in our kite flights. But back then, they were all paper with basil wood. Didn't take much to do damage. Is this dating myself too much, cheers cvc

Bob,

I have not flown a kite in years, I would absolutely love to do that! I used to have such fun doing it. I think the kids were little tots at the time!

Thank you for your comments. Kite flying is fun especially if you have good wind. I think the Katy prairie will have excellent wind for this event.

While reading this blog about kites, I was sitting here thinking, it's been a really long time since I got out there with the grandkids and flew a kite.  It was up at Sand Harbor on Lake Tahoe, about a decade ago.  I need to fix my absence from floating lofty things!

Good advice to watch out for the kids during spring break.  I would like to fly a kite and always enjoyed this as a kid especially on a windy day.
