Daylight Savings Time in Arizona

People are always asking why we don’t change our clocks in Arizona.  The best reason I heard is that we don’t want it to be 110 degrees at 10:00 PM at night.  At least if the sun sets an hour or so earlier than that, we can have a little cooling before going to bed.

Instead of running around and changing the 150 clocks and timers throughout the home, there are other things we can do around the house this weekend:

act1.jpgChange the water filter in your refrigerator

Change the batteries in your smoke alarms and radon detectors.act2.jpg

Fertilize your plants.

Clean your pool filters and check for any necessary chemicals.

Give your pool a really good cleaning.

Dust off all your ceiling fans.

If you have other suggestions, please leave them in the comment section to help others.

Frank, I don't miss it, although it is so confusing to me when you all do, LOL.

Barbara, I'm sure you would with all the crazy weather you've had.

Moved here from Indiana (the other state that doesn't observe Daylight Saving Time), so I haven't changed a clock in years.

But Arizonans still need to pay attention to the change for everyone else - otherwise we're calling people later than we thought we were. And we'll still make that mistake for the next week or so.

To Barbara Todaro: be careful what you wish for.

Week or so, Michael?  I usually get it figured out just in time for everyone else to change their clocks the next time, LOL.

Changing the batteries in the smoke alarms is a very important action for family safety.

Juli, I'm laughing reading this.  I still have not replaced my smoke detector.  I bought it but have not installed it yet.  I got the one that lasts 10 years ... it has a lithium battery. Never again will I be awake all night listening to a smoke detector chirp.

Juli, this DST is relatively new to Indiana so I am with you!!!!!

How about changing your oil in your vehicle?  OLD RED is overdue.  I am now going on almost 30,000 miles without an oil change.  My Toyota engine is indestructible although the ball joint bearings can be a problem from time to time.

Have a great Easter Weekend, Juli and your family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Juli - It's always a good thing to have a schedule for home maintenance items like changing the batteries in the fire alarms, etc. That way, you know you will take care of these things every year.

Hi, Juli...I haven't wondered why AZ doesn't do Daylight Saving Time. Your explanation makes sense to me.

Ha!  I always wondered why AZ wasn't on board with throwing their body's into such craziness two times each year!  Great list Juli!

I can't say as I miss the whole Daylight Savings Time practice either... I remember it was always a bit of a mix up.

I hate daylight savings time. It takes weeks to get use to it each year. If we need a long evening then fine leave it at that time from now on. Please no flip flopping back and forth.
