Travel Tips
Here are a few tips to consider if you live, or are visiting Naples, Florida and are planning a trip to Europe, from Naples.
Tip #1
If you elect to fly out of Southwest Florida International Airport, or RSW, the acronym used to identify that airport, you will need to make at least one connection in the United States, before reaching your destination in Europe. Depending on what airline you select, that connection most likely will be in Atlanta, Charlotte, Newark, or New York.
If you prefer non-stop flights, we recommend driving to Miami, Florida and flying out of Miami International Airport, or MIA. There are a number of airlines that fly non-stop to multiple destinations in Europe, including such cities as Paris, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Rome, Lisbon, Zurich and even Moscow, to name just a few.
Tip #2
The flight time for non-stop flights to most European destinations out of MIA ranges from approximately 8.5 to 10.5 hours. Add an additional hour or so, for return flights due to headwinds.
Since most people consider flights in excess of 5 hours to be long flights, we recommend flying First Class if available, Business if First Class is not available and Comfort Coach, for the budget conscious. Comfort Coach (Airlines have different names for this feature if they offer it) is a fairly new concept that many airlines are embracing, where you pay a bit more for a seat in Coach that reclines further and offers a bit more leg-room. Other perks include earlier boarding and free drinks.
Tip #3
Select your own seat on the plane when you buy your ticket. If you’re flying Coach, you’ll want to consider seating as far away from the lavatories and galleys, where there is constant activity. Also, again if flying Coach, be cautious about selecting seats directly behind the bulkhead. These are the first row of seats in Coach and although they offer more legroom, the seats are narrower, because the food trays fit into the side of the seats, reducing the amount of sitting area.
