While many people look at Groundhog Day to forecast the end of winter (how'd that work out Boston?), we here in Washington DC look to the National Park Service pronouncement of Peak Cherry Bloom Time.
Sure, we had 4" of snow last Thursday (March 5th), our biggest storm in DC this winter. But Spring is almost here.
April 11-14 will be the peak bloom time, surely to coincide with peak tourist time as well.
The official site may need to be monitored since the weather has been strange this year. If you are not going to be able to travel to see this in person, there is remote cam access so you don't have to leave your desk.
Personally, peak time is just what tourists worry about. The blooms, pre-peak and post-peak and the trees are truly wonderful to see.
This photo was grabbed as I was walking to meet some friends near home last Spring (2014). THAT to me is the true beauty & wonder of the Washington Cherry Trees.
