A poll - What will you spend your income tax rebate check on?

If you haven't already heard the news, the federal government will be issuing IRS tax rebate checks to most people this year. President Bush and the feds are hoping that people will spend their checks buying goods and services. By doing so, this will hopefully stimulate the economy and help financial conditions to improve.

In order to get a rebate check you must file a tax return with the IRS this year.  Even if you don't normally file a return you have to file this year in order to get a check. You can get specific details about how much, when, and how about these rebate checks by going to the government rebate website and reading up on the details.

The rebate amounts are basically $600 per adult (which means $1200 for couples) + $300 per dependent child.  The schedule for getting the money is based on your social security number and when you file your return.

This post is a poll to ask you what you plan on doing with your tax rebate.  Are you going to spend it on bills, pay off debt, spend it on something special, go on vacation, save it, invest it?

If I get a check (and I say if because if you earned over a certain amount in 2007, you don't get a check, and I sold 2 rentals properties last year and made a healthy profit), I plan on saving my money for now.  Feel free to share what you plan on doing with your check. Please don't complain to me that the government shouldn't be issuing these checks.  If you don't like it, you can always put your check in the shredder or donate the money to a good cause (or send it to me).

Rob, I plan on being conservative and using the money to pay down some debts.  I dont know if this rebate is going to help the economy much now.  Too little too late.

I don't know many people that can afford to spend the money on vacations or anything luxurious.  I have plenty of bills to pay.
