Is it Really Luck the Irish Have?

With St. Patrick's Day, a mere few hours away, we are reminded of the traditions of the Emerald Isle.  There are the leprechauns, the shamrocks, and of course the Luck of the Irish.

However, much of what may be seen as the Luck of the Irish, may simply be attributed to an ability to foresee trends.  Real estate professionals understand that housing markets are cyclic.  For example, in the years leading up to the Great Recession, real estate appeared to be on a never-ending cycle of viewing the pot at the end of the rainbow.  Most did not foresee what was to occur the following year, with the beginning of the economic downturn in Sacramento, and across this land.

As all things in business and housing, are measured in cycles, those who have either the luck of the Irish, or the ability to foresee trends, can benefit significantly with decisions about positioning well for the next cycle.

For the astute observer of the business world, this translates to OPPORTUNITY.

Interest rates remain reasonable.   I see this time as a wonderful window of opportunity for those finding a home they wish to buy - A special window of opportunity to invoke a little Luck of the Irish!

Although most of us cannot see the pot at the end of the rainbow, developing the ability to foresee trends, can make a significant difference in the world of housing and business investment, and provides us with the capacity for the collecting of the GREEN!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

No blarney Myrl, we all make our own luck.  Great tie in to St. Patrick's Day! I'm 75% irish, and we began celebrating since yesterday afternoon. Today I became old enough to collect social security.

What a clever post, Myrl, to acknowledge St Patrick's Day. I'm a firm believer that we all make our own luck. Meatime, "may the leprechauns be near you to spread luck along your way. And may the Irish angels smile upon you St. Patrick's Day!"

Myrl, Locally we're seeing interest rates rise just a bit (our 15 year loans are now over 3%), so anyone that's been fence sitting might want to spend their pot of gold before the rates go up much further.

This is a great message for St. Patrick's Day. Luck often comes in the form of opportunities and we have the choice to accept them or move on.

I suspect it will be a good year in real estate even if rates ease upward. Happy Spring to you Myrl.

The luck of the Irish and first-time home buyers are set for a rude awakening when interest rates suddenly spring upwards. Of course, we've been waiting for that to happen for years, but one thing is certain, and that one thing is it absolutely will happen and, if you listen to Janet Yellen, it will probably happen at the end of this year. That spike in rates can cause some Sacramento home buyers not to qualify anymore or they will have to downgrade their expectations, which I'm not particulary looking forward to.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat

I am Irish and my mother used to say her mother was as Irish as Patty's Pig. I was never sure what that meant but my mom believed in the luck of the Irish. Well she passed it on to me but I truly believe we make our own luck and hopefully find the Pot at the end of the Rainbow!
