Have you ever wondered about our Veterans' Wartime experiences? Soon, we'll have the opportunity to hear their personal stories - rather than relying on what we've seen in the media - or read in history books.

Announcing...

The National Veterans Freedom Park and the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project

Statute of Liberty - Flag

This Saturday, April 12, 2008, betweeen the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. War Veterans will have the opportunity to participate in The National Veterans Freedom Park interviews. Interviews will be held at the Raleigh Elks Lodge, which is located at the intersection of Millbrook and Lead Mine Roads. (See Map Below.)

For more information, contact either Bill Dixon (919-434-7345) or Bo Williams (919-760-9845).

What is the purpose of the interviews? Please Read On...

Mission:

The Veterans History Project seeks to collect and archive the experiences of United States Veterans.

Why collect Veterans' Stories?

1) To help the Public discover the facts of the wars- rather than the myths and mistruths that have been floating around for years.

Erar2) In the future, Veterans' children, grandchildren, etc., will have the opportunity to visit the Park, and LISTEN to their relative's military story. How cool is that??!!

3) Many military records have been lost through the years.  Army and Air Force records were destroyed in a fire - and Marine and Navy records were lost during Hurricane Katrina. By participating, the Veterans' families will have some documentation that their loved one served in the armed forces.

4) Historians and researchers will have the opportunity to learn from our Veterans. Currently, there is reportedly one World World I survivor. There are World War II Veterans still alive - and we can take this opportunity to learn from them, as well as Veterans of other wars.

5) For non-Veterans - there is an opportunity for you share what you know, as well. Your loved ones may have shared their pictures and stories with you - which can be passed along to future generations.

Sandra ~ I learned about this event yesterday, and it promises to be a great opportunity for us to learn from the Veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.
