Chris Mamone brings up a very point with this post.  We need to surround ourselves with a great team if we are to succeed.  In our industry, we are constantly being approached by people who want to be a part of our team.  We need to spend the time to make sure they are the right fit for us and our clients.

Chris' list is a great start when exploring team members.

I'm writing this article with regard to building business partner relationships because its something I'm currently focusing on right now. Who your business partners are can become an indicator of who you are and what your like to work with. Its the presentation personality and relatability to clients that matters most in this partnership. Here are my top things to look for when prospecting for new business partners.

1. Are they committed? We've all gone to meetings or network groups before and made a connection. Sometimes the connection turns into something, other times it becomes an empty promise. You can usually find out within one to two meetings if your referral partner is going to work out. You have to ask the right questions in the first few meetings. Are they already working with someone like you? What do they like about that relationship? Is there incentive to work with you? What do you bring that the other doesn't? Ask these questions!

2. Strategizing together! Every good business partnership succeeds with a plan! This is a good place to start going through books of business and trying to find referrals and working together to find a right solution for both of your clients.

3. Your first deal: This is a big step in your partnership. Do everything in your power to make sure things go smoothly and effectively. This can set the tone and the bar for how you interact with customers. Always ask questions, make good decisions and action plans to take care of the customer and communicate!
