Keeping the Concrete Block Walls

Free of Cracks

The Sacramento County Inspectors have been through many of the apartment communities and have come up with a healthy list of things that needs to be done. The list can be extension and time consuming for the property to get completed on time for the re-inspection deadline. There are ways to help get this done.

Many of the items on the lists need to be done by a contractor. The tools and expertise are beyond that of the average on site maintenance staff, so a contractor can be called in. I have been one of those contractors in Sacramento that gets calls for various projects. One of those tasks this week has been the demolition and construction of new concrete blocks for a faulty section of the wall.

We completed this wall yesterday and hope to get the final inspection during the county walk-thru on Tuesday next week.

There are several areas on the property where the walls on in need of repair, only this section was called out at this time. There are many trees that line the perimeter of the property that will put pressure on the foundation of the walls. More importantly the original construction of the concrete block walls in Sacramento did not match the current standards. The new requirement produce a much stronger concrete wall.

Good morning, Tom Arstingstall, General Contractor, Dry Rot, Water Damage Sacramento, El Dorado County - (916) 765-5366  good information for all of us.... tree roots are very destructive.... I can remember the days of people planting weeping willow trees and years later finding destroyed septic systems.....

Good morning Tom. Trees are lovely and impressive but can get troublesome if we build in their territory.

There are tons of block walls here, and you are right. Trees are their worst enemy!

I am surprised how few block walls we have in our area because the ones I am aware of have stood up well to our harsh elements.

That is one sturdy-looking wall!  Will it pass the earthquake test?  Hmmm...
