Stop Playing the "What If" Game

Stop Playing the What If GameIf you want to drive yourself completely insane as a real estate agent, try playing the game of "what if".  This is a very popular game  played most often by new real estate agents who so desperately want to look like they know what they are doing and have a smooth transaction.  The issue is that by the end of the transaction they drive themselves and those around them a little crazy.

The What Ifs

"What if they ask me how long I've been selling real estate"?

"What if the seller thinks the offer is too low"?

"What if my client wants to change lenders"?

"What if the home inspection is really bad"?

"What if the house has termites"?

"What if the appraisal comes in low"?

"What if the seller doesn't reduce the price to the lower appraisal price"?

"What if my client can't get their financing"?

"What if something comes up on the title"?

"What if we can't close on time"?

Stop Driving Yourself Crazy

And the list could go on and on.  More and more new real estate agents have a chronic case of the "what ifs" when they have their first few transactions.  Consistently asking, "what if" will surely drive you crazy.  One of the great things about being a real estate agent is that every day is different.  The downside is that you have no idea what issues you will face on any given day.  Buying and selling real estate is a process, not an event.  While it is important to look at the big picture, it is imperative to take the home buying and selling process step by step by step.  It's impossible to jump from step 3 to step 22.  It's pretty hard to skip steps because what happens at step 4 has an impact on what happens at step 10...you may not even get to step 10!  Stop driving yourself crazy and stop the "what if" game.  It's a game you will never win.
