The Wonder Of It All

The Wonder Of It All

One Christmas Holiday, a veritable swarm of black crows forced one of these magnificent animals into my hedges and it got tangled up in my Christmas Lighting. The neighbors saw it and notified me and I grabbed a white towel and went out to retrieve it. It was hanging upside down and the crows were about to attack it. When I stepped in, I was able to untangle it and I wrapped it in the towel. It's chest was heaving and I held it for some time until it was stable.

In that process, I received a gift of gratitude from that owl and I shall never forget that feeling. Becoming one with nature's creatures begins to open channels that may never have been realized before. It has contributed to giving me a personal feeling of being friends with so many of the wonders of nature. It helps me to see the real beauty in all that I take in and hopefully capture some of  it well enough to share it with you.

Hi Brian England , My frst encounter was with the owl ( just like this variety) that I saved from the crows. This owl was held for me to photograph at a show of wild birds held at Mount Cabrillo here in San Diego. The handler from the bird santuary heard of my story and offered to hold him for me to take his portrait.

Very cool photo and very cool story.  I had no idea crows would attack an owl.  He shouldn't have been awake at that hour!

William - That picture is magnificent on various levels.  First there is the expression of the owl.  It shows fatigue and gratitude at the same time.  There is also a feeling of resign to any fate that may come its way.

If expression wasn't enough, there are the intricate details of its plummage, especially the feathers around its face.  Absolutely amazing!

Good morning William. I too am glad that you are able to save the owl as crows are bully birds. I have seen them mob other birds of prey as well.
