This past week I flew up to Minneapolis to visit with my mom. She has moved from her home of 20+ years into an "Active Senior" Co-op. I went up to help her get the house cleaned out and get things wrapped up for the closing on Friday.
The building that she moved to has a heated, underground parking lot. Nice for the cold Minnesota winters. The one thing that I noticed and found particularly amusing was the parking lot...and dozens of empty parking spaces with walkers sitting in them. When I questioned Mom on that issue she had an answer. It seems that the residents of this place use their walkers to get to their cars, then they hop in their cars and drive off leaving their walkers in the empty spot until they return.
My question is...do they have auxilary walkers in their cars for their destinations? And, if they are unsteady enough to need a walker to get their cars, should they even be driving? Just a thought.
