Steamboat Springs The Yampa Valley Housing Authority is seeking approval from the city of Steamboat Springs tonight for at least 34 deed restricted affordable housing units. Elk River Village could be built on just over 10 acres along Routt County Road 129 with the potential of 54 multifamily condos in four 12 unit buildings, one six unit building and an additional 13 single family lots for 900 square foot homes with the option to add decks, car ports and second levels.

Although Elk River Village is currently zoned for commercial uses, the developer will show the planning commission how this project will benefit the public and that it satisfies the requirements of 6 acres of open space and the minimum of 34 deed restricted units. Elk River Village also meets other goals; it's within a large number of employers in the area and walking distance to bus stops.

The number of deed restricted affordable units depends on the success of the Housing Authority putting together a finance package for the project. Depending on financing and construction costs, their goal is to have all units deed restricted. If everything proceeds in a positive direction, work could begin as soon as late summer early fall, structures ordered next winter and available for purchase in the summer of 2009.
