Over the last year and a half, my blog posting strategy has shifted a bit. My goal is simple: Write 1 powerhouse epic post per month. (During the winter months when I'm a bit slower, I sometimes write an extra 1 or 2 posts...but only as time allows).
This is the concept of "less is more." Post less often, but make sure the quality is top notch. One really strong post can rank well in google and generate clicks and calls each month. After writing a good post, I try to spend some time promoting it including linking back to it from other posts and sharing on social media (and viralcontentbuzz.com... so that others will share). I read somewhere that it's better to spend less time writing lots of blog posts...and instead write fewer posts and spend more time promoting them. Actually, I've read that in MANY places, and from my own experience would agree w/ this as it has worked for me over the years.
Now, I already have several grand slams (I have 7 articles that generate 2000-5000 clicks every month, even though some were written in 2011 or 2012.) My goal is to find 2-3 more doubles or triples each year (and ideally another home run. Some of my posts surprise me and do very well...and then some surprise me in the opposite way. Sometimes this has to do with how often my target searches for this query and some depends on my competition (i.e. if they've written about the topic and if the page is already saturated. And, of course, some of this depends on me...is my post good? Is it long enough? Is it too long? Is it sufficiently different from what I've posted before? Is my page load time fast or slow? Have I linked back to it? (both from within my blog and external links and social media). Are people engaged? (i.e. do they stay on the page long enough, do they click additional links, do the leave a comment or question, do they share on social media.
Anyway, here are a few of my recent posts (from my blog at TheFlooringGirl.com). Feel free to read, comment and/or share on social media channels if this will help you and your clients.
1. Solid vs engineered hardwood flooring - Which is better? This one already has 106 shares...and it's new. I hope that it will do better in the search engines as this article seems to be more complete than some of the others out there. It will take some time for this to age a bit.
2. 7 Carpet Trends for 2015. This one has 88 shares. It could be doing better as it only has 350 clicks the last month. In general, my blog does much better for hardwood, flooring, sanding topics vs. carpet.
3. What is the best type of carpet for Pets? This one has 113 shares, but it's not getting a lot of search traffic. I will need to relook at this one soon.
4. 10 Hardwood flooring trends for 2015 - Now this one is doing awesome. It has 660 shares and is generating close to 4,200 clicks/month now. (over 8,000 clicks since I wrote it...and 3,500 on Active Rain).
Hopefully, this will help give some of them a bit of a boost. And, as I mentioned before, feel free to read, comment and/or share on social media channels if this will help you and your clients.
