Are We Sharing Too Much Information? Or Not Enough?
Do you every find it annoying to see a post for a new listing on ActiveRain and look for the price, then see something like "Contact us for the current price"? Michael Jacobs wrote a blog recently that addressed this issue with a humorous approach butt making some strong points for what information should be included in our marketing. In case you missed it I'm re-blogging it so you can give it some thought too.
Are We Sharing Too Much Information?
Or Not Enough?
Do we really need to know if your bum is clean enough to go commando?
I dare say - this may be too much information…
"Butt" this is a blog post about real estate and that brings me to this question:
How much should we share about our listings?
I read posts, see print advertising, receive postcards announcing new listings --- often with beautiful photos, other times with stunning virtual tours or incredibly well-written narratives describing the property attributes, features and amenities.
"Butt" then there is no price or no address?
What’s up with that?
Some will say...we want the client to call us….
Really---isn’t most of that information available "out there" anyway if the potential buyers go to other sites?
Do you really want to alienate potential customers and lead them to an additional and I feel unnecessary search? They can easily leave the site where they found you or quickly toss the postcard or turn page of the newspaper(yes people still read them)? Are you willing to risk it?
I give information freely. Lots of it.
I want those who contact me to ask the really pertinent questions...like when can we see it? - for example. I like that question...it starts a conversation.
I don’t mind answering questions about the street address or the price "butt" why not provide them with that info when they initially see it?
What do you say? Do you think it’s wise to “hide" the price or the address of your listings when you advertise -- online or in print?
I don’t see the point. Then maybe, I’m missing it…
Oh and by the way, do you have a square to spare?
"Butt" I digress...
