Is Your Website Mobile-Friendly or Responsive Yet? If not, why not?

According to Google, buy April 21, 2015 it needs to be if you are concerned about your website ranking. I know as a Realtor® this is very important for me. It seems to always be a work in progress, so every little bit helps.

Many website owners, webmasters and designers have worked very hard to get their websites to rank well and now Google is changing the rules of the game once again. This time there are two factors being addressed:

  1. App Indexing to surface useful content from apps.
  2. Mobile-friendliness ranking to accommodate the trend towards our more mobile society.

Why I Love Responsive Websites

In my opinion, mobile-friendly website just look better. The graphics resize to fit the device orientation and in many ways websites are easier to build. Using modules seems to be the latest trend and webmasters that I know love it.

Free Tools To Test Whether Your Website Responsive or Mobile-Friendly

You  can check the latest tips and tools from the Google post 'Finding more mobile-friendly search results' dated February 26, 2015. I found these tools very useful.

Don't be left in the dark, or rather, found on page two or beyond. Put your webmaster to work and get dialed in to the latest from Google. You'll be glad you did.

Have fun!

It's important that you know, my purpose is for you to be so outrageously happy with the help I provide that you'll gladly introduce me to at lease two people you really care about before your transaction closes. Not because you feel obligated, but because you truly believe they'll benefit.

I just checked my site analytics and had right at 500 sessions on mobile.  Only accounts for about 25% of my traffic, but it's certainly enough for me to have gone mobile responsive a couple of years ago.

My designer claims that what will happen on April 21st is not so much a "penalty" against non-mobile sites as it is an advantage for sites that are mobile-friendly.  No one is absolutely certain of the effects that the change will have, but it may vary depending on site content and competition.

Hello Tammy. It's good to be back on ActiveRain. Took a break for a while.

Thanks for your comment. Analytics are important to review. Otherwise what's the point right?

Thanks Eric for your comment. With so much going on and so many opinions, does anyone really know what's going on anymore? I think it's just something else for every to claim 'I've got one of those".

Probably won't matter that much anyway because soon thereafter it will be something else we need to do to scramble for the top spot.

Hello @Bob Crane, @Tammy Lankford, @Eric Kodner.

Let's wait and see how things shake out. One thing for sure, change-is-a-coming. But then, that's always true lately. As Realtors® we should know how to roll with the punches by now. It's built into our profession.

Rebecca, there has been so much on this subject, if you don't already have a mobile friendly web site, you are way behind!
