Pizza Wars IV Coming to Wallingford's Villa Capri

Pizza: from the Latin pinsere, meaning “to press”. No matter what the etymology of the delicacy is, to those who love it it means, “Good God, let’s eat!”, and on April 9th, pizza lovers can unite under one roof to do just that.

On that date, Wallingford’s Villa Capri Restaurant will once again host Pizza Wars, the area's epic battle for pizza pie supremacy, from 5:30pm to 7:45pm. So far, hostess Dee Babkirk has seven pizza shops from Wallingford that have signed on to bring their best creations to share with the public.

Pizzas will be judged by the crowd and a panel of elite judges who will deliberate over crust, sauce, cheese, spices and toppings to come up with a winner in three categories:

• Best Overall (Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice)
• Best Cheese Pizza (People’s Choice)
• Best Specialty Pizza (People’s Choice)

Entrance fee for this grand event is $10 at the door, and there will be a DJ, a cash bar, and raffles. We've attended this event every time it's been held, and can honestly say we've had some really good pizza, some really radical pizza, and a lot of fun! What makes this event even more special is that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to three great local charities dedicated to our military: Operation First Response, Help Our Military Heroes (HOMH), and the Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation, Inc.

So give the Cook the night off and come on down to the Villa Capri and sink your teeth into some of the best pizza this side of Little Italy!

The pie was cut into 94,248 slices and eaten by more than 30,000 spectators at the baking in Havana, Florida.
