Valley Ranch has been attracting younger families for almost 3 decades. Dallas Morning News calls it the “Uptown” for sophisticated urban living. Irving might not come across as a hotbed of dense urban living but the Valley Ranch area notably along MacArthur Boulevard, north of I-35, just west of the verdant Trinity River Basin, ranks high for urban dwellers. Formerly used as a cattle ranch, the rolling plains of the Trinity River Basin make Irving’s Valley Ranch community a picturesque place to live.
Just south of the Dallas Cowboys Training Facility, it’s full of sprawling apartment centers as orderly and well-groomed as nearby Sam Houston Trail Park. Coppell’s well regarded schools are a draw for education-oriented families, with roughly half of the Valley Ranch zoned for Coppell ISD and the other for Carrollton-Farmer’s Branch ISD.
Community activities are a big part of Valley Ranch. Events such as recycling day and efforts such as “A Taste of Valley Ranch,” a brochure listing the 36 restaurants peppering the area, a good portion of them Indian, help bring the community together. Other events that the neighborhood association have put up include annual ladybug release and an annual Vegas Night held at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas.
Such community events foster familiarity, and may help make it a safer community. Recent news of burglaries haven’t left people’s mind but they have made the community more vigilant and neighbors look out for each other. Density also plays a factor - proximity breeds interaction.
Being a master-planned community, everything is within walkable distance – Wal-Mart, Sam's, Best Buy, plethora of restaurants, ethinic (mostly Indian) grocery stores, parks, library. To top all this, Valley Ranch's central location with each access to Freeways - 635, 114, 121, Turnpike etc. make it ideal for families who want to live commutable distance to both Dallas and Fort-Worth. It also works great for commuters, consultants, sales professionals who regulary fly in and out of DFW Airport.
