Freaking Out About Mobile Compliancy on Your Website?
We've been getting a lot of phone calls and emails lately about mobile compliancy, and to be honest I havent' had a chance to write a blog about it until now because of the influx in these calls. Google will be using mobile friendly as a ranking factor starting April 21, 2015. Google will naturally be moving mobile friendly sites to the top of the list.
If you're not sure that your site is mobile compliant you can simply test your site by going to the mobile friendly testing link here https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ Google will tell you if the content matches the screen or if your links are too close together. It will also use resources to find out if your site is blocking certain robots to search the site.
If you have WordPress site this is a easy fix but it does involve a little bit of time. You have three options if you have a WordPress website in order to make it mobile friendly: you can change the theme to a mobile friendly theme or template; you could install the jet pack with a dedicated plug-in designed to make your existing site mobile friendly, or we can customize a plug in for your site that will make it mobile compliant and stick with your theme. (If you choose a plug in over a mobile compliant theme you may experience some navigation issues on the mobile side)
Now, if you don't have a WordPress website you'll want to talk with your website provider or host in order to move your site to a more mobile friendly layouts. Many of these large website providers are actually moving to WordPress and charging hundreds if not thousands of dollars to do so. This might be the best time to move over to a WordPress site on your own. If you choose to go with a WordPress site through your existing website provider you are still under their thumb and don't have full ownership of your sites. We are always promoting ownership of your domain and your website files, so this might be a good time to move everything over to your own WordPress site and have it hosted on your own server or through a server such as Go Daddy, Blue Host or even one of our servers. This means that no matter what IDX you go with or if you change the theme you never lose any of your content and it never needs to be moved again.

If you choose a new theme you may have a lot of work on your hands because you will probably need to resize or even re-create your logo, move the content or menu features around and reorganize your navigation. This is not hard but it is tedious.
