Why You Do What You Do

By
Real Estate Agent with Online Real Estate Agent Training

Why You Do What You DoEveryone comes into real estate for different reasons.  For some, selling real estate will be their primary source of income.  For others it could be a means of earning extra income for their household, vacation money, college fund money or simply a reason for getting out to the house.

What's Behind the Curtain?

Too often real estate agents will compare themselves with other agents in their office or marketplace.  They will see and hear what other agents are doing and feel as though they need to do what they see others doing.  The issue with comparing yourself with someone else is that you only know what you are seeing and you don't see what's going on behind the scenes.  You don't know their motivation for working.  Appearances can be deceiving.  An agent who "looks" busy and prosperous may or may not be...you don't know the whole story.  It's a lot like the Wizard of Oz, you don't know what's behind the curtain.  While the agent may look busy, when you pull back the curtain, they may be spending most of their money on running their business.

Are You "Team" Material?

Or perhaps you have a lot of teams in your office and you see how many listings and sales they seem to be making.  You begin to think that you need to either create a team or join a team.  Are you even team material or do you prefer to work by yourself?  Have you considered the pros and cons to being a part of the team?  But again, the issue becomes you don't know what the team is spending to get those listings and buyers.  There's a lot to think about when it comes to running your business.  Remember, all that glitters isn't gold.

What's Your Why?

It's important for you to be clear on why you have a real estate business.  Is it because you are the primary breadwinner in your household?  Is it because you want to have some extra money?  Every one of us has a "why", and that "why" is what motivates us to work or not.  Just like we want to know what motivates our clients to buy and sale, we need to know what is motivating us to run our real estate business.  When thinking about how you want to run your business, be clear on your "why".

Thinking outside the box

Candy, I do this because I chose to. This is a 2nd career for me and I was fortunate enough to decide what was next. Having several options to choose, I went with real estate and have no regrets.

I enjoy working with other professionals from out office as well as other Brokerages.
