Stairs In Feng Shui Are Passageways That Also Need TLC

After a Feng Shui Consultation in TarryTown NY, I stopped off a a local hotel to grab a bit to eat and attend a networking event. The Hotel hosting the event had many of the Feng Shui principles in place and I want to share one that caught my attention.
Stairs in Feng Shui become a channel for energy to move (just as with hallways). Yet, typically when it comes time to addressing the stairs with design, the TLC for this area tends to fall to the waist side. In Feng Shui, every area in you home or building is just as important as the next, including the stairs, bathroom, laundry room and closets.
I just wanted to point out some key enhancements that you can keep in mind for your stairs. Naturally this example is a commercial setting, yet there are key factors that all stairs can benefit from.
1. Lighting on the ceiling. Use all levels of observation (ceiling, wall space and floor) to help grace you up and down your staircase. This helps to slow the fast moving energy of staircase design.
2. At the base and top of your staircase, either add attractive artwork or furnishings that create a "soft landing." This also helps to slow the energy down
3. Always try to have a railing or banister in place that promotes a secure feeling when walking up and down the stairs. A mixture of rounded or curved design is encouraged while also depending on where the stairs are being placed within the layout of that space can also indicate the possible design idea. Ideally, even the stairs are suggested to have a closed back, yet that is your personal choice.
All three observations are to help you and the energy move efficiently and gracefully when using your stairs.
