Does this Getaway Mountain Cabin need an Interior Re-design?

A few years ago, I helped the present owners purchase this cabin in the Mountains of the Prescott National Forest. On the table was an old Hudson Home Publishing plan book from 1978 with a picture of the cabin. Rendering of the Cabin

When I discussed this cabin with an Agent who showed the cabin several years ago, she said most of her prospective Buyers though it did not to be very "cabiny."

All the woodwork in this home is hardwood. The home is spectacular on the inside. Does it need wood panelling on the walls?

Does it need to be staged?

John Mosier I am sure stager will make a big difference. Not an expert at cabins - however, I know, they make a big difference.

Praful Thakkar -- Thanks for your comment. Staging a cabin is a different project for a stager. The prospective Buyer for a cabin is really looking for a different ambiance. Typically not luxurious but more of a feeling of being rustic and laid-back.

Looks good to me John, the white seems to contrast well with the wood and rock.

Bob Crane -- The woodwork IS beautiful. I agree the white brings out the beauty of the woodwork and the fireplace. This place is in a beautiful setting at nearly 7,000 ft elevation. It is the only place near here where there are Aspen trees mixed in with the Ponderosa Pines.

John Mosier This cabin is perfect just the way it is. Seller: do not touch a thing! If a buyer want it changed; buy it first!

Sandy Padula & Norm Padula, JD, GRI -- It wasn't my idea to change it. I'm with you. The cabin looks better in the rendering than it does from the outside.

I'd have to see many more photos to tell you what I think about it.  But I'm anti paneling

I also would have to see more photos, but I am with Tammy Lankford, no paneling. But I do like the idea of a staging consult to have the home look contemporary and warm.

Sharon Paxson -- This cabin is four miles of un-maintained dirt road past the end of the pavement. I don't know If I can find a stager, much less  furnature delivery who will go there.

NO.....does not need wood on walls.

Yes, could use some staging....nothing major.  Based on the location you describe, I wouldn't suggest bringing in furniture.  Use what's there.  It's more about removing objects.  All the extra chairs and little pieces and all the stuff hanging on the walls should be removed. They are distracting.  You want to keep the focus on the positive features of the home, the view for example.  All that stuff (wicker basket, pillow, end tables....) should be removed from in front of the windows.

Sharon Tara -- Thanks for your feedback. These photos were taken when I helped the present owners buy the place in 2010. I will take your advice starting with the way it looks now.

The huge windows and the view outside are the main selling points. The cabin is surrounded by Aspen, Ponderosa Pine and Spruce trees and is at an elevation of 7,000 feet making it a cool summer place to escape the heat in Phoenix.

I agree with Sharon's ideas about removing all of the extra stuff. Can't tell from these pics, but if there's a way to put a seating arrangement that takes advantage of both the fireplace and the great outdoor view, that's what I'd do.

Thanks for your comment, John Novak

A bigger problem is the approach from the outside. The cabin sits on a pretty steep slope and the columns supporting the deck are tall. The driveway comes in at the base of the deck. We don't usually think too much about curb appeal for this kind of property but I think we should do what we can.

This home is the classiest of any in the neighborhood. We just need to work to show it as its best.

I am making a separate post to get feedback on what to do about the outside.
