The Tale of Trophy Club

Trophy Club dates back to 1847 when Charles and Matilda Medlin, along with twenty other families left Missouri by wagon to settle along Elizabeth (Denton) Creek in Elizabethtown, Texas (the strip of land just across from the Texas Motor Speedway).  The Medlin's wanted to acquire large tracts of land but flooding issues along Elizabeth Creek forced them to the area that is now Trophy Club.  One legacy of the Medlins is the Medlin Cemetary.

The early development of Trophy Club, Roanoke, Westlake and North-west Fort Worth was due to Texas and Pacific Railroad.

In the 1970s John McMackin (Fort Worth law firm Mcgown, Godfrey, Decker, McMackin, Shipman & McClane) convinced the recently retired Ben Hogan to design a golf course and two-story club house that would house Mr. Hogan's championship trophies.  The Law Firm and Mr. Hogan started acquiring 2500 acres of land required for this project.

In 1975, Denton County Municipal Utility District was created and in 1977, an 18-hole golf course, club house, swimming pool construction started.  Trophy Club's namesake derived from the notion that the country club would house Hogan's PGA trophy collection.

1980s, property owners started taking over the Trophy Club Community Improvement Association.  In 1985, Trophy Club residents elected Jim Carter as the first Mayor of Trophy Club and under his leadership began the development of Trophy Club's first comprehensive Master Plan.

During the 1990s, Trophy Club continued to grow in population as developer Jeff Beck began developing the town's remaining 1250 acres.  The Northwest Independent School District was established.  In 1998 Beck Elementary and Medlin Middle schools opened.  In 1999, the Clock Tower was built and Harmony Park officially opened.

The 2000s were marked by building parks, opening Byron Nelson High School and the development of the Highlands of Trophy Club.  In 2001-2002 Independence Park broke ground and later got 4 baseball fields, tennis courts, playground and swimming pool.  The town took over 877 acres of Marshall Creek Park which was later renamed Trophy Club Park.

The town currently continues its growth with new construction going for upwards of 500K.  Residents enjoy the parks, amenities, close access to 114, shopping around Roanoke, Southlake, Flower Mound.
