For the second year in a row our office will be hosting its annual Cultural XChange and International Potluck. The purpose is to have a panel of multicultural realtors who will lead an open discussion on common traditions, customs, and things to be aware of when approaching people of different ethnicities of New York.
Throughout history New York has been a major gateway for immigrants, and the term ‘melting pot’ was even coined to describe the densely populated immigrant neighborhoods of lower Manhattan. Today, over 800 languages are spoken in New York making it the most linguistically diverse place in the United States. New York City also has four of its boroughs in the top 20 most diverse counties in America, with Queens ranked 1st, Brooklyn at 3rd, Manhattan ranked 7th, and the Bronx coming in at 17. To top it off, Lonely Planet named Queens as its travel destination for 2015, saying that, “nowhere is the image of New York as the global melting pot truer than Queens.”
Living amongst so many cultures can get overwhelming, and our XChange hopes to inform and educate everyone with information that can help us better serve the increasingly diverse cultures that are populating our communities; bringing us together with the most popular theme in all cultures – food. An important aspect to our cultural xchange is also the potluck where participants are welcome to sample dishes ranging from samosas to Korean rice cakes.
The annual Keller Williams Cultural XChange will take place on April 22nd, from 5pm to 7pm, at our Bayside office.
