Relationships begin with simple pleasantries.

Relationships begin with simple pleasantries.  A pleasant conversation to start or end the workday is a treat.  I had a terrific call yesterday from a customer who knows what she wants, has reasonable expectations of what her budget can afford, and best of all…she has a fun personality!  By the end of our conversation, we were discussing things as if we had already met and spoken to each other several times.

On the drive home, I continued to be in a good mood…simply because I looked forward to helping her and her family find their next home.  It struck me funny because since it was our first phone call, I know she was also interviewing me and I wondered how I fared in her eyes.

Having good rapport is key in any relationship, but crucial between clients and agents.  Each new phone call is an interview.   As a REALTOR®, I promise to put your needs first, be truthful, and be your champion--the basis of any relationship.  Life is too short for people to work together when they do not get along well and do not ‘have a connection’.  If you don’t feel that 'spark', you may need to analyze if you have a budding one-time conversation or a future relationship.

P.S.  I am thrilled to say my customer phone call did indeed turn into a new agency relationship!

You are so right.  If the connection is there it is so much more pleasant.  Congratulations!  Wished we clicked with everyone we talk with but sometimes it is not in the cards.

Cathleen - Congrats on getting your new client. Hopefully, with one that seems to have a good head on their shoulders and is realistic, the buying process will go smooth, and you will develop a new friendship.
