Do you ever wonder why you have to go through certain events in your life? A broken bone, a lost pocketbook, even an argument with your child. What was that all about? Perhaps the broken bone was to meet a very good group of medical professionals, the lost pockebook was to show you there were still honest people in the world and the argument with your child was to have a chance to see their point of view.
The other night while watching the evening news I could feel my blood pressure going up. I am so over the negative commentary about the economy, the hike in the fuel prices, but mostly the day to day "gloom and doom" of the housing industry. So why are these events happening?
We, in the Real Estate Industry, think about it every waking moment and most of our sleeping time as well. So while scanning for a "happy place" in my mind a flash from the past came to the forefront.
When my son was 9 years old we each had our opinion on how his behavior should be. My opinion of course was for him to do exactly what I told him without any questions. We had many conversation but to no avail his behavior was not getting any better. Since I was a single mom, I felt like I needed to find professional help because there was something that I was missing.
During one of our visits, the Counselor asked my son why he was angry with me and why he was behaving the way he was. My son's reply was, "she won't buy me the Air Jordan's I want and the stereo system I've told her about".
Apparently the Counselor had had a very long day and he matter of fact stated to my son, "All your mother has to do, is provide you with food, clothing and shelter, and she's done that"!
THAT'S IT, SHELTER! It is the best time to buy a home! Who want's to put their hard earned money in the stock market that they really don't understand any way? The inventory of homes on the market is like picking the biggest and juiciest strawberry out of the patch. Make an offer, you may just find out that you can have a home. The best investment that anyone can make today and have a good return on their money. It's the necessity of life.
With the economy like it is, as consumers we are spending our money on the necessities and not the luxuries. When you rent you are meeting the dreams of the landlord, when you buy you are meeting the dreams of your family.
I think the reason for the counseling was more for me than my son, and maybe to remind me as a Mortgage Lending Professional we can change the real estate down turn if we just tell it like it is.
Oh by the way, my son is now 31 years old, he has his own family and has just purchased his first home, he is quite the man.
