There's plenty of evidence in the pool.

I find it intriguing when I make that chance discovery of coins in a fountain or pool. I’ll pause and gaze over their numbers and think, “Wouldn’t it be cool if you knew the represented wish of each coin.”

In ancient times wishing was an appeal to the invisible forces that surround us and just maybe they’d respond favorably if we made an offering. Nowadays, I wonder to whom we address when a wish is made.

Coins in a fountain at University Village, Seattle.

Myself, I rarely have any change in my pocket. Transactions with plastic are but a stream of electrons and always exact. But if I do, I can’t resist. I’ll make a wish and toss a few coins into the water, just in case.

I think we still have a connection with the invisible forces. There’s plenty of evidence in the pool.

Rene - how fun!  I remember all the times I've 'wished' and tossed the coins into the fountain. Who knows if they came true - probably!  Because if we use our imaginations and believe it will come about - it will (at least in our minds)! And heck, it's all for fun, right!!  Good to see you - you've been missed!

Rene,

One of my favorite old movies is Three Coins In A Fountain.  It really shows the Trevi, which now you have to squirm under a hoard of tourists to really see it, as we did two years ago in Rome.  I have thrown a coin everytime we have been there from our honeymoon to two years ago...We have been in Rome 6 times.  My wish is to return to Rome.  And in Florence I pat the boar's nose wishing for my return...14times so far and counting. A

Hey Jan Sohlman ... I too, never really thought about that until recently. It just hit me about a month ago thinking about these modern times and all... Gee, I wonder who they're wishing to... Thanks!

Hi Grant Schneider  and stars and dandelions and wishbones and... It's kinda cool as much as life has so amazingly changed this last decade or two, we hold on to something that reaches so far back into our collective lives... Thanks!

Tossing coins into the well has some hints of Odin and his trials, coming back with the Runes, etc.  It's a tradition that has many myths, customs, traditions -- and superstitions.  I tossed a coin last Saturday!  Hope my wish comes true!

Interesting. Back in Russia, it was not a wish, but rather it meant that if you throw the coin into the fountain, you would come back to this place again. So, this was a very "touristie" thing :)
