April 12th National Grill Cheese Day!
Well I guess sometime today I will have a grill cheese sandwich with some fries on the side!
The people at National Day Calendar say that historians indicate that bread and cheese is an ancient food and found in many cultures. In the 1920’s the American version of this sandwich was served as an open faced sandwich. This recipe is even found in the Navy cook books and described as “broiling an American filling cheese sandwich.”
Grill Cheese sandwiches are so popular that you can now find many versions on how to prepare them in any cookbook; and also in any restaurant across America.
National Day Calendar was unable to locate who actually started National Grill Cheese Day.
