Speechless Sunday (Almost)--Zoo Flashback to Mold-A-Rama

mold-a-rama Como ZooLion Mold from Como Park Zoo

A visit to Como Park Zoo just wasn't complete as a kid without stopping for a hot wax molded animal from a Mold-A-Rama machine. These machines were a favorite stop for kids with extra change for a inexpensive souvenir back during a grade school field trip in the 1960's and 1970's. (I can still smell acrid scent of that weird hot wax.) The price was only 50 cents back then. I remember taking my nieces to the zoo in the mid-80's and they were also intrigued by the squished hot wax mold of a Como Park lion or gorilla to take home. I was surprised that the machines still operate today...but less surprised by the price increase. At $2, it is still a bargain.

Como Park is still one of my favorite places to visit year round. Whether you want to have a family picnic, play a round of mini golf, ride the carousel, walk around the lake, see the animals or the flowers, there is literally something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

How cleaver is that!  I don't believe I've seen anything quite like it before.  At first glance I thought it might be a 3D printer!

Myrl--Hot wax molded in metal plates...burned fingertips if you took out of the machine too quickly.

Como park looks like a great place to visit.  I have never see the hot wax molded animals.. I can see why they are popular.

Teri - I enjoy visiting the zoo, and Como Park Zoo sounds like a great place. I have never seen a machine like this before, and at first, I also thought it might be a 3-D printer. I  can't believe it has been around since the 1960's.

Joan--It is a very nice zoo...best part is that it is free to visit! They do ask for a goodwill donation but it is FREE! We love Como Park!

Troy--I have never seen a 3-D printer in person...but have used this machine in the past and witnessed it in operation back in the late 60's.

Teri, that is SO COOL! I know my son would LOVE that machine! And only $2? What a bargain for a great souvenir!
