The 6th Annual IWO Jima Surviors Victory Ride will take place this Sunday, May 17th. The 6th Annual IWO Jima Survivors Victory Ride is in honor of the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II in 1945, and will be held rain or shine.
A couple facts which most of us may not be aware of is that:
- "Of the six men who raised the second flag on Mt. Suribachi, only three lived to leave the island while the remaining three were killed before the battle was over."
- "The Iwo Jima Memorial is the only flag raising monument in the nation which was built by survivors of the Battle of Iwo Jima."
All funds raised by the 6th Annual IWO Jima Surviors Victory Ride will be go to the Maintenance Fund for the National Iwo Jima Memorial which is located in New Britain/Newington, CT. This monument is maintained entirely through donations raised by volunteers. If anyone would like to help with a donation, they should call Gary at (860) 291-9666, or e-mail him at sosiwojima@yahoo.com
