Schedule of A-Day 2015 events

The Loveliest Village on the Plains will be awhirl with activities today, with sports, music, food and activities sure to please everyone in the family, hosted by Auburn University and area organizations.

Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m., but other A-Day events are set to start early this morning and last all weekend. From Tigers baseball at Plainsman Park to teddy bear surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine ’s open house, here’s a rundown of A-Day weekend fun.

A-Day game

Kickoff for this year’s A-Day game is set for 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for AU students with an Auburn Ignited card. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line. Tickets can be purchased onlineatAUBTIX.com. Tickets purchased online must be printed at home. Tickets also can be purchased at the main ticket office at Auburn Arena beginning at 8 a.m. and at the Jordan-Hare Stadium ticket windows beginning at 11 a.m. All Jordan-Hare Stadium gates will be open for A-Day, but the West upper deck will not be open for seating.

Parking is free for the game. All lots other than the Accessible lot, which will open at 10 a.m., and the East Coliseum Lot, which will open at 11 a.m., will open at 8 a.m. Tiger Transit shuttles will run both on- and off-campus starting at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m. Tiger Transit Shuttle service will run from the Auburn Mall, Duck Samford Stadium and the City of Auburn Softball Complex. Tiger Transit Shuttle service will also run from on-campus locations including War Eagle Way, Facilities Division, Lem Morrison and Donahue, Woodfield and Donahue, West Parking Lot and the Samford Avenue community garden.

Track and field

The War Eagle Invitational began Friday at the Hutsell -Rosen Track, and continues today. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

Baseball

Auburn’s baseball team will be in action over the A-Day weekend as it hosts Ole Miss in a three-game series at Plainsman Park. Action began Friday; first pitch today is 3 p.m. and the Sunday finale will begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at www.auburntigers.com.

Softball

Auburn’s softball team is hosting Alabama in a three-game series at Jane B. Moore Field. Action began Friday; first pitch today is 5 p.m., and the Sunday finale will begin at 1 p.m. The series is sold out.

Punt, pass and kick

A punt, pass and kick contest, 40-yard dash and field goal challenge will be held on the football practice fields from 9 a.m. to noon today for kids in first through sixth grade. Entrance to the field is off Biggio Drive .

Fan Fest

The Coca-Cola Tiger Fan Fest featuring a live DJ, Frisbee dog show, inflatable games, dunk tank, rock wall, petting zoo, face painting, autograph tent, appearances by the Auburn spirit squads, food vendors and more will be presented on the campus green space just east of Jordan-Hare Stadium beginning at 10 a.m. Admission is free.

Tiger Walk

Greet the football team and coaching staff as they head to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the A-Day game. Tiger Walk will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Autograph session

A post-game autograph session will be held following the conclusion of A-Day and will last for approximately 45 minutes. Fans will be limited to one item per person.

Arboretum plant sale

The Donald E. Davis Arboretum will host a plant sale today from 8:30 a.m. to noon featuring native Alabama plants. There will be a large selection of native azaleas and wildflowers, as well as some other native trees and shrubs. The sale will take place at the Davis Arboretum at 181 Garden Drive on Au burn University ' s campus. For more information, email Dee Smith, curator of the Davis Arboretum, atdrs0001@auburn.edu.

College of Veterinary Medicine open house

The College of Veterinary Medicine will hold its annual open house today, opening its facilities to the public to showcase the variety of professional opportunities available and allow people to learn more about animal care and health.

The free, student-organized event, from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., features a variety of educational and fun activities for all ages on the college’s campus, at 1130 Wire Road in Auburn .

Featured programs on the veterinary medicine campus will include a 9 a.m. Canine Performance Sciences Detector Dog demonstration, a 10:15 a.m. Canine Parade of Breeds, and a noon Southeastern Raptor Center educational program, all on Greene Hall lawn.

Other activities will run 8:30 a.m. until noon, including tours of the College of Veterinary Medicine showcasing laboratories and the Auburn University Teaching Hospitals for both large and small animals. Teddy bear surgery will be on the second floor of the Veterinary Education Center, where children can assist veterinary students as they practice their surgical skills by repairing stuffed animals brought from home. There will be a petting zoo in Bartlett Arena; a showcase of exotic animals in Greene Hall; an equine display of breeds in Bartlett Lameness Arena; and a paleontology dig in Bartlett Arena.

School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences’ Spring Fling

The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences will host its third annual Spring Fling today at Coach Pat Dye’s Crooked Oaks Hunting Preserve in Notasulga . All proceeds raised from the event will go to benefit scholarships, fellowships and student programs in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences.

Events will begin at 5 p.m. and will include silent and live auctions conducted by Dye, live music by Kidd Blue, tours of Dye’s home and Quail Hollow Gardens, photos with Aubie , Birds of a Feather and Southeastern Raptor Center attractions and outdoor forestry and wildlife exhibits. A fresh seafood dinner courtesy of the Organized Seafood Association of Alabama will be served at 6 p.m.

Brinkley Rackstraw , a member of the band Nashville Bound, will open for Kidd Blue. Featured live auction items include a Florida gulf beach vacation; a gun donated by the Alabama Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation; a six-night, five-day Michigan fishing trip; a six-night, five-day fishing trip in Ontario; and a pair of redwood Adirondack chairs with side table.

Corner Block Party

Block party festivities in downtown Auburn will begin at 10 a.m. with a Kids Zone on North College Street , and will continue following the A-Day football game with the dedication of the new Auburn Oaks and a concert at College Street and Magnolia Avenue .

Presented by the Downtown Merchants Association, activities for children will include a super slide, a triple-play inflatable sports game and a rock climbing wall until 2 p.m. Parental supervision is required. The cost is $5 for unlimited play, and proceeds benefit Downtown Auburn.

At noon, the Auburn University Bookstore tent will open on Samford Lawn and feature the first product line from the previous Auburn Oaks trees as well as officially licensed Auburn Oaks merchandise and other Auburn products. The tent will remain open until 6 p.m. Fans can pick up A-Day 2015 buttons while supplies last, and also enjoy free face painting until 4 p.m.

A ceremony to dedicate Samford Park Plaza and the new Auburn Oaks will be held at 5 p.m. Special guests include Thom Gossom Jr., actor, author, communications consultant and Auburn alumnus; Auburn Athletic Director Jay Jacobs; head football coach Gus Malzahn; and head basketball coach Bruce Pearl. The Auburn University Marching Band, cheerleaders, Tiger Paws and Aubie will be part of a spirit rally.

The concert portion of the evening will start at 6 p.m., with Nick Jonas taking the stage at the intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue. His performance will be followed by Nelly and Ke$ha .

College Street from Thach Avenue to Tichenor Avenue and Magnolia Avenue from Wright Street to Gay Street will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 6 a.m.

A-Day brunch

A brunch will be presented at the Wellness Kitchen on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The all-you-care- to-eat brunch is $13 for adults and $7 for children 11 and under. The Wellness Kitchen is just north of the new parking deck, across the street from the South Donahue Residence Hall.
