If you want to sell your home, make sure it evokes emotion.
This past week, we been in a number of luxury homes in Clark County, WA. Two different families are trying to find the perfect retreat for extended family living. We specialize in multi-generational family solutions, therefore we tour a lot of larger homes, or homes with second dwellings on acreage.
Most of the homes are prices from about $700 and above. Generally speaking, homes closer to the million dollar mark have more bells and whistles and high end finishes, in addition, they tend to have the most stunning views.
Therefore, it came as no surprise when one of the family's settled on two houses as their top picks: one with 360 degree views, thought to be the best view in all of Clark County, priced at 1.1 million dollars. The other home, with less spectacular vistas, felt alive with the care and love of the owners. It was priced at just under a million dollars.
Does Your Home Create Emotional Connections?
The owners of the home with with the amazing, and never-ending views, didn't turn on any lights in the home prior to the showing. I hurried through the house ahead of the buyers turning on switches - there was no music playing via the surround sound system they spoke about in the brochure. Little attention was paid to how someone might feel upon entering the home. Floor to ceiling windows let in the views, high end finishes and quality were evident, but there was something lacking.
Conversely, the home these buyers chose was glowing with lights, music and fresh flowers upon arrival. The lawn was freshly cut, and neat and well-manicured flower beds were dotted with Spring color from a variety of flowering bulbs. The family photos had been tucked into a box in a storage room downstairs - the closets, pantry, storage areas were all neat and tidy, and spoke of ample storage.
Hummingbirds drank frequently from a feeder hanging outside the Great Room, and all of us stood in delight watching them, and giggling at their territorial antics. A Gurgle Pot filled with icy cold well water ( some of the best water we've ever tasted) sat on a lovely platter on a counter in the huge gourmet kitchen A note encouraged us to pour a glass. Every inch of this 6100 square foot home spoke of love and life and joy.
Imagine how thrilled we are were upon learning the sellers had accepted this family's offer, in a multiple offer situation. The love and life and joy will continue at this address. Meanwhile, a gorgeous house, with the most stunning views in the county, still sits on the market waiting for someone to fill it with love, life, and joy.
