Love Letter To A Special Home
We have been doing "teaser ads" on this wonderful home.
Take a look at the love letter written by my wonderful sellers.
How many love letters have you seen written to a home?
''Cockeysville, April 19,2015
On our very first visit we entered your community through the gate at the end of Pot Spring Road, not knowing what to expect. Then we saw you: malnourished, ragged, scruffy looking and seemingly scared of any new encounter, rigid, forbidding. You reminded us of the looks of all our dogs when we first spotted them on the street, in animal hospitals or the rescue centers. Still, similar to all our adopted dogs, there was the sense that this was really not your true self - that you had to be freed of all your negative baggage and had to be given a second chance.
Same as with all our adopted dogs, it was love at first sight. Was it the upright lion carved into the front door watching over your inhabitants, the lion - the proud insignia of our beloved hometown, Zurich/Switzerland? Were it the stacked stone walls with integrated fireplaces, that reminded us so much of the designs of our preferred architect, Frank Lloyd Wright? Was it the exquisite woodwork and craftsmanship throughout the curved staircase? Was it the wonderful natural light flowing in from different angles that made us forget about the poor condition you were in?
But why try to explain? We fell in love and adopted you…. without ever having any regrets. You quickly became a friend and our home in a true sense.
You deserved the best possible care to restore your original beauty, your very welcoming and inviting nature. A new roof helped to finally dry up your ceilings, diligent insulation work gave you dry feet and a new warm outer coat, that helps keep you warm inside, despite the sometimes very cold and damp winters. You deserved hardwood floors in additional rooms, replacing worn out wall-to-wall carpets. Your kitchen and all bathrooms got a major facelift to make you smile again.
We leveraged your perfect location to the extent possible.
We do love the city with all it has to offer from a cultural and culinary perspective. How much did we appreciate the luxury of leaving home in the countryside at 7:15pm, only to find ourselves comfortably seated in our seats at the Symphony at 7:50pm. How many times did we decide – just on the fly – to get into the car to enjoy an impromptu dinner downtown 30 minutes later. Shopping for everything is easy, close by and opportunities are ample at Towsontowne Mall and Hunt Valley Mall, Wegman’s, Fresh Market, Giants, Trader Joe’s and all the other stores and dealerships along and around the 6 Mile stretch of York Road and in Towson.
We do not have any children but from friends, neighbors and Baltimore Magazine we know how sought after schools like Dulaney Valley High School, Carver and others are.
We both grew up in the countryside in Germany and love the outdoors. Your location right at the edge of a MD state park is perfect for people like us: many miles of trails can be easily accessed right in your gated community without ever moving a car. Trails lead hikers, bikers and their dogs to the soothing waters of gorgeous Loch Raven Reservoir, some passing the nest of the American Eagles high up in the trees, some passing the historic cemetery of the Merryman Family and ruins of long forgotten homes that are scattered on the slopes of the hills surrounding the now flooded towns of Warren and Bosley. The very diverse wildlife was ours to explore – it is spectacular in its simplicity and transcends the man-made limits between state park and private property.
Although only just minutes away by car, we really did not use many of the options Oregon Ridge and the NCR trail provide.
Because we love the outdoors so much, we wanted you to be an integrated part of it. We completely redesigned your backyard: Portuguese stonemasons built stonewalls that resemble your inner stonewalls; Lothorian designed and built your new in-ground lap pool that nestles against these walls. The pool’s waterfall and calm waters disseminate the feeling of having brought beautiful Loch Raven right back to you; decks and stairs built with farmed Brazilian hardwood (IPE) and Mahogany match the quality of your hardwood floors and wood paneling inside.
Alas, the time has come to say goodbye – and you know that this was not our decision to make. If there were an option to take you back with us to Europe, we would certainly make it happen, but we both know that this is an impossible dream.
You have given us so much. You have been our home away from home… and together with Sammy and Coco, our two current rescues, you smile again – this makes us smile despite the deep sadness of having to leave you behind.
Thank you for the wonderful 17years we could share with you!
Annette & Max
