In the land flowing of homeownership opportunity, there are some things, some very real things that need to be put into the equation when it comes to owning a home. Now, it is true that having a place of your own of ANY kind increases your expenses from living with roommates, etc...  What I am talking about here is a doing a little honest mental planning & prep work to "vet" your real (beyond closing) monthly payment in the real world.

Here is a couple quick examples: Things like how hot you like your home in the winter, or how cool you like it in the summer can change your monthly expenses by as much as $100 or more! Watching HGTV (Envy TV?) or any number of DIY shows can also put a hurt on your monthly payment, not just with fixing up things on the cheap, but finding just the right peice of furniture, new bed, new kitchen table that can increase your monthly cash flow...

Stieg - This is a good post, as most homeowners only understand their monthly mortgage payment. They usually never calculate utilities, HOA fees, or set aside money for home repairs/maintenance.
