ASK AN AMBASSADOR:  But I Don't Feel Like Blogging Today

Mumble.  Don't want to.  grumble...arrrrrrgh.  Can't think of anything.  Don't feel like it.  Bleepin' white screen just staring at me, taunting me.  C'mon keyboard, how about a little cooperation today??

I bet we all have days like this.  Where topics are scarce, or the topic we know we SHOULD write about just isn't inspiring.  Another subdivision post, another market report, just not feeling it.   Or maybe the topic will just take more time than we have to invest.  A full day of showings and the window for blogging is maybe 20 minutes before you've got to be out the door.

Blogging is at least to a certain extent a numbers game.  The more you blog, the more chances someone has to find a post of yours.  Now that's not to say sacrifice quality for quantity, because what's the value in being found if what is found is manure?  No, blogging is a numbers game where the odds decidely tilt to your favor when you consistently produce quality posts that provide value to your target audience.  Now maybe your target is other Rainers for agent referrals, and if that's the case what works for that audience is vastly different than what works for area home buyers and sellers.

Providing area home buyers and sellers pure real estate info that they can't find on ZTR and elsewhere is crucial to blogging success.  Sure it's not exactly a thrill to write an entire series of posts about homes for sale with 4 bedrooms, or 3 car garages, or with swimming pools or finished basements or fenced yards or first floor masters or wine cellars get the drift, if there's a home characteristic there's probably a home buyer looking and you can be the real estate leprechaun with the pot of gold at the end of their search rainbow if you write those "boring" posts.

Some days blogging is fun, some days it's work.  But the work can have a pay off if you cover the right topics with enough frequency to be found.

If you need to take a day or ten off of blogging, then do what you have to do.  But know yourself too.  Are you a blogger that will let 1 day turn to a week to a month to a year, or do you have the self-discipline to return after a bit of a break?  What you should do next comes from that self-knowledge.

For me, I'll keep on blogging!

In my opinion there is always something to blog about. Even if it's a local weather report for the upcoming week. It doesn't always have to be groundbreaking journalism but just something helpful or informative that locals will find useful.

Nicole, I don't think I've ever lacked for topics, but I've often lacked a topic I WANTED to write about.  If it gets bad enough, I'll drag out an older local event post, brush it off with the latest info and hit post.

Michele, And there's value in the local posts even when they're not pure real estate related.  Advocating for our area and showing people we know what goes on is part of it for us.

Sheila, I'm just too stubborn to take a day off after blogging daily for years.  The streak will continue :)

Bliz you are a blogging machine! There have been times when it's just so busy that blogging isn't on the radar and I'm fine with that.  That doesn't mean I'd give up - by a long shot!

BLiz: I have been taking a few days off each week from blogging here in the Rain the past month. That has allowed me to catch-up on guest blogging opportunities elsewhere, work on content curation, and a host of other online things. For me, it has been good to cut back here to help gain more time elsewhere.

Very well said.  I have been taking many days off as things are super busy and it's more important to focus on my current customers and other marketing that has brought me incremental biz.

Thankfully, I have many homerun posts that continue to generate clicks and calls consistently for me each week.  I focus more on making sure those continue to stay where they are and/or rise higher in the SERPs.

And, I'm with Anita Clark on this one.  With some of the time I am spending on line, I'm diverifying my efforts for better return

Hi Bliz - We all have those days, but the reward for powering on is considerable. My solution is to spend a few days getting all of my market reports, about 20/month, done, and then posting one each day. I have a grim, boring and tedious, but mercifully brief, time up front, and then the rest of the month to write, and maybe have some fun, as the mood dictates.

BLiz- the reason I post every day is because I know me.  My concern has always been that if I let one day go by, then the next time it will be easier for me to not write a post.

Great advice, BLiz.  On top of that, it only really takes 1 boring post for each type of home/market report/etc - then you can save the template, and use it to make all the other 'boring' posts faster to get done.  I don't particularly enjoy writing about loan programs, but that's what makes the phone ring most.

AB, I've had some days/nights that I've posted a lot later than I'd like, but so far I've always managed to carve out the time I need.  Since it keeps making the phone ring, I'll keep doing it.

Anita, You know for sure what and how to make your SM time work maximally for you.  I'm still in a more simplified path so it's here in the Rain primarily.

Debbie, You've got those killer posts that will continue to rank well.  And meanwhile those of us that read you get to put what we've learned to work for our clients around the country.

Dick, I almost never have any finished in Draft.  It's a daily sit down, write, publish.  Repeat next day...and next day...and .....

Raymond, Been hanging out with him online and in person for a number of years, so bound to rub off on us a bit :)

Kathy, I've had some days recently where it's been a bit more of a challenge to get out of the gate.  A little bit under the weather, some meds and I'm off kilter and it doesn't work quite a easily.  Getting back to 100% slowly but surely.

John, Love our templates.  Every market report is a copy of the last month's for that community, freshen it with latest stats and advice, repeat day by day.  Same thing with subdivisions and most local events.  We've got a framework and that saves us a lot of mental time putting a post together.  They can be boring, but they work.

Bliz,  this question is even more on target if asked in the voice of a whiny teenager.

Now, now buck up and move along.

It's been a little more difficult for me lately.  I have the topics and I have the desire, but a girl needs some sleep.  And I have 9 hours of CE classes between now and the end of the week which really isn't going to help things at ALL. And getting ready for class at my office.  Yikes.

Claude, When we make it a habit, blogging gets easier.  There are still some days that are a bit of a struggle to get in the groove, but they become more infrequent over time.

Tammy, The challenge, always so much to do and not nearly enough time to do it all.
