When you live in Kentlands you know…
Rick Obst has issued an April challenge for ActiveRain bloggers to think about what makes where you live different and special. This is an easy challenge for me since Dolores and I live in a wonderful community in the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. The location is in the north western suburbs of Washington, DC.
When you live in Kentlands you know…
…that Kentlands is a planned neo-traditional community that attracts planners from around the world.
…that the Kentlands Mansion is the location of many community arts events and is also a popular location for marriage ceremonies.
…that the Gaithersburg Arts Barn is located in Kentlands and serves as a regional arts center.
…that students can walk to public schools from their homes in Kentlands.
…that the alleys in Kentlands are called Mews and that most of the garages do not face the public streets.
…that most of the homes have white picket fences or wrought iron fences.
…that cedar shake roof materials were originally required for all of the homes in Kentlands.
…that the Whole Foods store and the Giant supermarket are within walking distance of homes in Kentlands.
…that walkers and runners come from other areas to enjoy the walkability of Kentlands with well lighted sidewalks and limited traffic activity.
…that Kentlands has a very effective community watch program and a very close relationship with the Gaithersburg Police Department.
…that Kentlands is known for beautiful gardens and is an ideal location for photowalks.
…that the Kentlands community happy hours at the Kentlands Clubhouse provide a wonderful place to meet friends and neighbors.
…that the Kentlands community swimming pools are some of the nicest in the area
…that an exercise room is available for use by Kentlands residents.
…that there are wine tastings every Friday night and beer tastings every Saturday night at Pinky & Pepe’s Grape Escape.
…that Brookside Gardens is the nicest botanical garden in Montgomery County.
…that RideOn is the bus service that takes Kentlands residents to the Metro station for travel throughout the area.
…that it takes about 30 minutes to reach the National Zoo and that being a member of FONZ provides free parking at the zoo.
…that you can take day trips to Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania or Delaware from Kentlands and there is an endless number of wonderful travel destinations.
…that I could write about many of the additional benefits of living in Kentlands, a preferred location for families being relocated to the Metro Area of Washington, DC.
