Baltimore Burning

I am sure that you are watching the news about the mob actions, personal injuries, looting and the burning of vehicles and buildings in the City of Baltimore.

If you watched the looters at the CVS store and the burning of the store without any action at all by the police department, you must wonder how in the world this can happen.

It is a good time for all of us to ask if the same thing could happen in other cities and the response we would expect from the local government and the police department.

Should business owners expect that they will receive police protection from looters and mob actions?

Roy,

We have seen these scenes in Los Angeles.  Education is the great leveler, and we need to have great education in place.  A

Hello Roy,

This is tragic and hard to comprehend how those that are creating this chaos can justify their actions.  As the other comments mention, education is key to preventing this type of mob action.

I'm loath to comment on this situation due to my strong feelings, I sure hope this gets resolved quickly or we will have a national problem on our hands...

Sorry to say that there was a big lack of leadership yesterday  in Baltimore starting with the Mayor . . . . Her lack of leadership allowed things (the riot) to get out of hand putting both personal property and the police offers at risk.

Is Baltimore going to step up and pay for the personal property that damaged from their lack of response to what had to be done?

Good luck and success.

This type of incident happens time and again all over the world.  Inequity of resources and treatment create disharmony and malcontent.  In this environment, a single event can cause a cascade of social disruption.

- Protesters have a cause, take to the streets to be heard and effect a change.

- Rioters only look for an excuse to act out and destroy without restraint.

- Looters look for an opportunity to make off with goods.

In the turmoil, government doesn't know which group to address first.  I worry for the people caught in the midst who wanted no part of any of it.

Roy - What is happening in Baltimore is a tragedy!  I remember the riots of the 1960s and how devastating they were to communities and cities.  What those who participate in that kind of behavior don't understand, is that they are effectively killing their own towns.  I saw it happen to a community here in Sacramento (Oak Park) in the 60s.  Business moved away, people sold their homes, and the place quickly became a ghetto.  It is once again beginning to rebuild, but it's been 50 years!

Yes, all the business people should have a right to be protected during this time.

Good morning Roy. The leadership has done a poor job in my opinion and you know what that is worth. Hopefully the worst is over, but there seems to be more recruits that are creating lots of chaos and destruction.

Myrl Jeffcoat - It may take decades for the City of Baltimore to recover from this week's events. They need a massive redevelopment program as well a an upgraded educational system.

Rob Thomas - The educational levels are very low in this area of Baltimore and that fact is reflected in the very low average income and very high crime rates. These people need a lot of help.
