We all remember Little House on the Prairie from the tv show in the 70’s, but not everyone has heard of the rest of the series including Little House in the Big Woods and Farmer Boy.

It was at least 15 years ago when we packed the kids in the car for a long weekend in Pepin Wisconsin to see the site of Little house in the Big Woods, Laura Ingalls Wilder’s first book about her early days before heading for the prairie.

Now this week I find myself working in Northern New York and seeing a site that I never thought I would see, the site of another favorite book from Laura Ingalls Wilder. This being the site were her husband Almonzo lived when he was young.

I highly recommend reading the books if you have not, and make sure your kids get a chance to fall in love with this series too.

Thanks Bob, I wish I could be there too. These books are still a favorite among middle grade students. Though Farmer Boy is quite a thick book, and does intimidate some students. They are some of my favorites to teach with as well.

Very interesting post and 'Little House on the Prarie' was my of my favorites. I really like your photos; especially the red one. I cannot remember if I read the books but I never missed a show.
