Personalities in Real Estate: The Angry, Frustrated Agent
An agent called me saying he was at the listing he'd texted me about earlier that day. He demanded to know where the lock box was. He said I'd told him it was on the front door and it wasn't there.
The agent said the lock box wasn't behind the screen door. I said "Um, my listing doesn't have a screen door." The agent said "I'm standing right here! Where is the lock box?!
The agent was obviously at the wrong place.
I asked if he saw my sign in front of the property. "No!" He answered. I asked if he thought he'd accidentally made his way to the wrong property.
He said "I'm at [property address]! It was the right number, but wrong street. When I told him, he hung up.
The agent had come across as angry and accusatory, but in the end I think he was just embarrassed. I hope he didn't have a client with him.
No one is perfect and we all make our blunders. What if I'd accidentally given the agent incorrect information? Would that have made it okay for him to approach me in an angry and accusatory way? Of course not.
Whenever possible, just make nice.
