How Success is Linked to Your Choices

By
Education & Training with Referral Maker Real Estate CRM

Many real estate professionals pursue success only to have it elude them time after time. Sure, they set goals, commit to daily lead generating activities and offer great service to their clients, but they seem to miss something along the way, and what they’re missing prevents them from reaching their ultimate goal of success.

What they’re missing may boil down to the choices they’ve made. The choices don’t have to be large, life-impacting ones, such as moving to a new area or changing companies. More likely, the choices are small, seemingly insignificant ones that they make every day. Perhaps they choose to work through lunch in an effort to cross more off of their to-do list, only to not have the energy or focus to be at their best during a listing presentation later in the afternoon. Maybe they skipped the gym to get another hour of shut-eye and they couldn’t perform at their best for the rest of the day. While these choices may not seem that big at the time, they have an impact on productivity for the day and the chances of reaching success in the future.

If you manage yourself, you can be as successful as you’re capable of being.
 –Brian Buffini

The key is to make the choice before the choice presents itself. One way to do this is to create and stick to a routine. When you have a routine, it’s hard to deviate from it. Everything becomes so automatic that a choice is no longer an option.

Now, we’re not saying to be totally inflexible—after all, stuff happens. However, sticking to a good routine—one that taps into your strengths—allows you to focus on what’s important and adhere to the activities that will help you reach your goals. For example, if your goal is to get in shape and lose fifteen pounds, having a health routine—one where you work out every day for a set amount of time and eat healthy meals—will help you get there. Stopping at the nearest fast food place on your way home after a stressful day is no longer a choice that you need to make; eating healthy has become so automatic that instead you’ll reheat a container of healthy stew that you made earlier in the week.

Everything I do is linked to systems that I have created for myself, which allows me to focus on listing homes and closing them. I am extremely focused in my business because I'm wired that way. I might even sell my systems down the road, but for those who can't create their own, and that's most people, having a system handed to them that's easy to follow seems to be the logical choice. Best of luck to you and your company, Laura.

Hello Laura,

Routine can be a pro or a con. I tend to steer clear because I get bored too easily. I need challenges, but I also need some stability. Finding balance is the key and that's not easy to do.

Routines and habits can be good or bad...I need to make the choice based on others experience, incorporate it into my life and then "Just Do It". Thanks for the reminder. And, the way you explained your company's purpose so lightheartedly and coming from a point of value, I will look at it now. :)

I have never known the following dynamic to fail under any conditions and it is simply this...awareness! If one stays the course, not only do we journey but there is a destination to it...Take that choice and focus it....it proves itself

Congratulations on the feature! I agree with Richie Alan Naggar author PEARLS FOR THE SOUL.com Books on once you have awareness you tend to stay more focused.  Of course, once you have awareness you must find acceptance to move forward.

Entrepreneurship offers the opportunity to define strengths instead of weaknesses. There's a disconnect when the focus is on a needs to improve. When we excel at something we're good at, the needs to improve category naturally improves, and that may include finding solutions outside ourselves.

I do well but know that I could do better with a bit more discipline and focus.  Try to have systems in place but...it doesn't always work out.  My little devil is "procrastination"  and my mantra has to be Just Do It! or nothing gets done in a timely fashion.

Other small choices affect success as well. Everything from choosing the clothes to wear to work to choosing to make just one more phone call before calling it a day can have an impact.
