My family just returned from what I would say is the best family vacation I have ever had. We've taken a beach vacation every year since my children were born. Usually two weeks down at the Jersey shore. I love the beach but anyone who knows me knows the high drama of our FFV's (Freaking Family Vacations). Those beach vacations involved moving me from one kitchen and laundry room to another, (much smaller, not nearly as nice but with a better view) kitchen and laundry room. I cooked, cleaned, did laundry and pretty much manned the real estate phones for one or two weeks from the beach. I enjoyed it, had a lot of fun with the family, but a vacation? Not so much for me.
This year, because Max is going off to college in the fall and Mike is now living in Philadelphia, we decided to really kick it up several notches and we treated ourselves, for the first time ever, to Aruba. Words can't convey the beauty of this island,. From start to finish we all had simply the best time. No drama, no work, no phones (this was the first time I've ever not been able to use my phone on vacation). Just good food, happy hours, laughter, sun, sand and lovely salt water.
It was great to unplug and really relax. We met a few really great people from the States there that I intend to keep in touch with, walked the beach, floated in the ocean, drank way too many daiquiris, and really enjoyed ourselves.
I'm grateful for the opportunity and I'll remember the fun we had for the rest of my life.
What's the word today? Vacation. I highly recommend it.
