What Makes A Great ActiveRain Blog Post?

By
Real Estate Agent with Maricopa Real Estate Co BR645115000

I bet you are wondering what makes a great Activerain blog post?

The answer is…It Depends.  (Such a typical answer huh?)  LOL

Well it’s true. It depends on a few different factors:

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE:  Who are you writing the post for?

• Are you writing it for the public in general?

o Then don’t make it too area specific

o Write for buyers or sellers in general that might work across the country

• Are you writing to your local customer?

o Then tie in local highlights, specific events, areas

o Think of things your local community might be interested in

• Are you writing to the ActiveRain Community?

o Are you seeking information? Learning?

o Are you sharing what you have learned?

o Are you just sharing something fun?

o Are you just being social?

o We all love different things. I know I love all the above

TOPICS:

• Same as above – the topic needs to fit the intended audience.

o I’ll let others give you a list of specific topics, just keep in mind who you are writing it for.

o Believe it or not, we all like learning about different things from around the AR world, so share…you never know who might be reading

• Listings - Don’t worry, your listings are meant for your local folks, don’t worry that other members may not want to read it. They aren’t buying it (although some offer some great advice). This post allows you to share what MLS maybe doesn’t give you enough space for. Have fun with it

LENGTH OF POST: How long should it be?

• This also depends on who you ask. Google loves a really long post. Personally I think we all have a case of attention deficit and need something that is around 300 words unless it is truly riveting. If you fall asleep rereading it, don’t be surprised if we do too.    LOL

WHEN YOU TYPE:  Can I read it?

• This one I think some of us can agree. We need the following:

o White space – Please don’t do one long block of words. People need breaks. People need HIGHLIGHTS to follow along or they will either fall asleep or bounce

o A font we can read – Some people use a huge font and the words all blend together and others use a tiny font we can’t even see.

o Use that preview button – does it look like something you would stop and read?

MOST OF ALL: Be You and Have Fun. Everyone loves a person who is authentic to themselves.

These are just a few key things I was thinking about today for some reason.

So what other advice do some of my fellow rainers have for anyone who is wondering what makes a great ActiveRain post?

I"m glad you brought that up about the font. There are some writers that I wish would use a larger font. This is a great post, Tammy.

I have always found that long posts never get my attention, short and sweet.

Some great advice in your post Tammy.

Tammy - you gave great advice.  I think the bots at Google like the lengthy posts.  I just had a conversation with someone about this.  He said decide whether you want to write for the bots or people.  So I chose people.

Hi Tammy Adams ~ Realtor Maricopa, AZ ,  Great information for those just learning to blog.  I always try to add at least one photo or illustraion to the blog to help instill interest.  Sometimes I even throw in a video I have filmed.

A moving experience!

Not to sound like an ex-president... but a lot depends on what you consider a "good" post.

Is a good post one, in which, you receive lots of comments?

Is a good post one, in which, you receive a gold star?

Is a good post one, from which, you get a referral?

Is a good post one which connects with a consumer??

Tammy- this is one of the best postsi've read about the subject. I admit I fall in the don't like to read a wall of words group. Your post is long enough to inform and short enough to keep us interested.

There are so many different factors, depending on the person reading the post. I skip past posts that are too lengthy, with no breaks, and no photos. I don't have the time for them.

Very good information.  When everyone was scrambling to make long (Google Juicy) posts, I refrained.  I know that the folks who typically read my posts want concise, well written information.

A great blog is, well, great.  But I'm coming to accept that at times, if I have a good one,I should proceed, because a great one doesn't come along too often.

Part of the post is also the communication, and 25 responses tells me this is a winner.
