Pest Control so far in Seattle for 2015-what we are seeing

By
Industry Observer with Paratex

Hello: And it's a gorgeous day here.

I wanted to update all of you on what we're seeing here at Paratex in Seattle as far as pests in 2015.

Seasonally, we always see ants. They tend to come out when the weather warms up. This year it was sooner by about a month as we had a mild winter. Up here we tend to see moisture ants which are not as destructive as carpenter ants, for example.

We also see plenty of rats. Seattle is blessed (or cursed) with the third highest rat population in the United States. Call it our proximity to water or the fact we're so green here (lots of  vegetation). Whatever the root cause, it keeps us busy here at Paratex.

Finally, bedbugs are prevalent here. There's really no rhyme or reason. Bedbugs are often brought by people who travel frequently. The key is to catch the scourge early.

Our job here at Paratex is to provide preventive treatment  and advice in the hopes that the problem can be managed and eventually eradicated. If  we can be of service to you, please don't hesitate to

Paul we don't have a problem with rats or bedbugs, but the ants are out in force now that the weather is warm.  I need to go to Home Dept and pick up some stuff to take care of the little critters :)

Michele: Sometimes a combination of soap and/or vinegar (you can probably Google this) can work. Something the ants can crawl into and drown.

George: That's a good idea. The good news is ants tend to be seasonal.

Exterminators are there to control the pests that we don't in or around our homes.

Good luck and success.

You are so right, the earlier you catch these issues, the better. You are definitely the right person for any pest control job.

Paul, around here between bedbugs and stinkbugs, pest control companies are looking like a great investment!

Pest control companies are supposedly recession proof. One thing is for sure, Patricia. We are busy!

Paul, ants, yes, the rest, THANK GOD, no! We get spiders, too. I just tell people, you live in the woods so get over it! Add a bat house!

Very true Thomas. A lot of people try to do it themselves; usually with less than stellar results!

Adding onto Thomas' comment. I had a client that had bed bugs and tried to exterminate themselves. Talk about crazy... Our local exterminator uses heat treatment to exterminate bedbugs, works great. I'm surprised many companies in the area don't do it.

Heat can be effective. It's expensive though and requires some expertise. Thanks!
