Herring Run Park Archaeology Weekend
May 16, 2015
Herring Run is an 11.1 mile long tributary of the Back River that runs through Baltimore.
Herring Run Park is an urban oasis located in North East Baltimore (3800 Belair Road) and covers 375 acres of woodlands and includes walking and biking trails, playgrounds and a nursery selling local plants. There are opportunities for fishing, birding, picnic areas - it's a great place to visit on Mother's Day for a picnic or to purchase some local plants.
Herring Run Park is also home to a Public Archaeology Project. On Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, Baltimore Heritage, the Northeast Baltimore History Roundtable, and their partners are welcoming visitors from the neighborhood and Indiana Jones archaeology enthusiasts to stop by during their Open House and learn more about the active dig going on in Herring Run Park. Visitor can take a guided tour of the site and talk to archaeologists and take a closer look at artifacts from the investigation.
This is a great opportunity for you to take the whole family and be part of a real live archaeology dig.
Check it out!!
