Nostalgia and Nature

Every summer, our pool hosts a couple of movie nights. We stretch out on lawn chairs with popcorn and blankets and watch The Princess Bride for the 100th time.

Why do we love watching movies outdoors?

It could be a shout out to the good ol' days or a contemporary twist on communing with nature. Whatever it is-outdoor movie watching is popular. If you love it or want to try it for the first time, try a few of these Outdoor movies in Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC.

Screen on the Green

2015 is the 16th year for Screen on the Green, an outdoor movie festival on the National Mall. This year's movie season kicks off Monday, July 21st with the film, The Karate Kid. Movies will run through the end of August. They are shown on a huge screen 20' by 40' on the Mall between 7th and 12th streets. Bring your blanket and take the Metro to Smithsonian station.

National Harbor Movies on the Potomac

This is a beautiful spot along the Potomac River. Movies are shown at the Plaza on a huge screen. No seating available so you have to bring your own chair. The outdoor movie season kicks off Sunday, May 24th with the film, Akeelah and the Bee.

Bethesda Outdoor Movies

Just a few blocks away from Buyer's Edge office, Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle hosts five nights of "blockbuster hits" from July 21st to July 25th. This is a smaller area but very charming with plenty of restaurants nearby.

Rosslyn Outdoor Filmfest

Friday nights in Rosslyn, this outdoor filmfest is one of the hot spots in the DC area. People gather in Gateway Park at the foot of Key Bridge. The scenic spot has a great view of Georgetown across the Potomac River. Outdoor movie night kicks off Friday, May 30th with the movie, Office Space
