Technology - The Good, The Bad and the Ugly!

Yesterday seemed like a wasted afternoon spent with a cranky piece of technology.  In this business, we allot our time according to some sort of guideline.  Whether it's calling clients, working on files, or whatever we need to get done during the day.  But I doubt we ever allot time JUST for repairing technology.  http://www.skinit.com

Spending almost three hours with one technician was the most unusual experience in quite some time. Not only did I NOT plan on spending that much time without that piece of technology, but I spent most of it doing mental gymnastics of things I could have been doing.

Starting most of my mornings, I'll peruse my phone and eliminate any junk mail while half heartedly looking in the mirror making myself look presentable for the day. Multi-tasking while doing this must look hilarious, but I digress.

All of a sudden, my phone went dark with a spinning spiral in the middle.  GASP!  What the heck was that? Turning it off, then on again, I realized it was okay.  But the inner work person said, "Don't even think about hesitating on this one."

So popping into the Verizon store mid-afternoon, selecting the least busy time for both them and me, I started the rant about my phone.

I've had this little jewel far too long.  It had a custom case that I created on SkinIt.com so was personal and unique to me and my niche.

But holding onto a phone just for the case when the phone is about to go to Mars is not a good idea!

I created this custom back cover but will definitely change it this next time. My contact information should be in white or black.   My office mates know immediately whose phone is left in the ladies room - which has been handy!  Technology - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!

So, off we go.  Nearly three hours later, I have my new IPhone 6.  Now to create another custom back for my new phone.

Love the quick responses, great pictures, and ease of use.

Next - Laptop!  Argh!  Technology - The Good, The Bad and the Ugly!

Jan, my iPhone 5 battery was bulging and creating all sorts of havoc until I ventured into the Apple Store and they gave me a new one since it had nothing to do with me...but I was without a phone for hours during a very busy work day. It was truly weird - couldn't even take a loaner phone to keep on talking :)

Jan,

I don't think I've kept a phone more than 18 months...and yes, I customize them too. I really do need to clean out the old ones.

We are so dependant on our tech devices today. I dread the day the my laptop finally dies....I know that time has to be coming. I love the phone cover, I didn't know about them!

Jan Green Other than the fingerprint technology on my iPhone Plus never working right, I like my phone. We do get dependent on them.

Jan congrats on the iPhone. Anyone who knows me knows that I am always the first person to get anything that Appe comes out with. Yes I am wearing the new Apple watch. I don't know what I did or how I functioned before I had it. I am hoping that Keller Williams is investing in a compatible app. It is very convenient. Now as far as a laptop I do not recommend the new apple MacBook I do recommend the apple MacBook Air it is much better and so easy to carry around if the mini iPad is not compatible with what you are doing

When a phone dies it can be panic inducing.  And getting used to a new one is no picnic either.

I have completely gone to apple in the past 4 years.  laptop, ipad and iphone and am so happy I did.  And I'm rough on a phone so I get an otter box for accidents with my phone.  So far so good.

Anna Banana Kruchten - Arizona's Top Banana of Real Estate! - Yes we would be left high and dry without our phones!  Great seeing you last night :)

Sonja Patterson - Good for her!  I love mine, just playing on it to find new tricks!

Frank Rubi, MBA - Not much of a learning curve so far, but we'll see!

Lisa Perry - yes the 6 is nice, the + is too big for my squatty hands.  I had a 4S!

Ruth Grainger - Good luck on your term paper.  Technology can bite us at times!

Myrl Jeffcoat - Yes I know I take technology for granted and when it stalls, I'm really stalled!

Patricia Kennedy - I'll write a post on it when I receive it. I'm going to work on creating it tonight.  Wish me luck!

Sharon Alters - It is a weird feeling.  I got kind of fidgety then after 2 hours of that, I started to get used to not looking at my phone every 2 seconds!

Richard Iarossi - I had the tech wipe my other one clean, back to factory settings, then donated it.  They send them off to charities, a good thing.

Julie Morales - You aren't kidding.  Losing that much time really slowed me down, but thankfully I'm moving on!

Sharon Tara - My laptop is stuck as I write this and is next on my replacement list.  More technology!  Ordering the phone case was pretty simple. You just get a clear cover for your phone and select the custom cover based on your type of phone.  I uploaded my logo, selected a back cover and walla!

Michael Setunsky - My hands are too small for the 6+ so I got the 6.  Hope yours works for you :)

Michelle Grunberg - Thanks for the tidbit about Mac's.  I have never owned one and my daughter is trying to convince me to get a Mac, for obvious reasons!  But it would really be  a learning curve for me, so still considering.  Thanks!

Richie Alan Naggar author PEARLS FOR THE SOUL.com Books on - You're right!  Without our phones, where would we be?  Just a heart beat away from panic!

Paula McDonald - It's great, huh?!  I love how quick it is responding, because my 4S was a dinosaur!

Chris Ann Cleland - You're right!  It was the strangest feeling sitting there, not checking my e-mail, texts or voicemail for that long.  It really made me aware of how much I do look at my phone!

Tammy Lankford - And insurance!  Good for you for a good case!

Praful Thakkar - I hear you.  It makes sense to keep the same technology if it works, but mine was getting stuck so many times. I then learned what I had erased, wasn't erasing and in fact caused the problems.  Have a great week!

Holding on to an old phone due to the back cover is like buying a new home based on your existing sofa isn't it? (grin)
