Armonk NY is probably best known as the home of IBM World Headquarters. To those of us who call Armonk home it is a beautiful community in which to live and raise a family. Although Armonk has grown since I moved here in 1988, with only 4,500 people it is a small town within a metropolitan area. It borders on Greenwich CT and is a 40 minute train ride from midtown Manhattan. When you ask for directions to Armonk you will be told to drive up Route 22 and turn onto Main street at the Eagle.
Armonk is actually a hamlet and part of the Town of North Castle. The town of North Includes Armonk, Banksville, and North White Plains. You can learn more about the town at this link.
Residents of Armonk send their children to the top rated Byram Hills Schools. It seem like almost every year one of the high school students is winning the Intel Science Contest Award. The high school has a great band. Both of my daughters participated and played intruments including the annual Memorial Day event.
Every May 30 (the orginal Memorial Day date) the American Legion in Town sponsors a parade down Main Street to the American Legion Hall. There are some remarks, a keynote speaker, and patriotic selections by the Byram Hills High School Band. The Legion hosts a picnic afterward. It is always in the evening since May 30th is usually a work day.
There is plenty of recreational opportunities here in Armonk. The North Castle Recreation Department runs a summer day camp in addition to many sports at Lombardi Park. They have just completed a new softball playing field. Here is a picture below:
Finally, Armonk has a very charming downtown area. It is bustling with residents and employees of IBM and other companies during the day. At night there are great restaurants. Take a tour with me in this video:
